How Long Shipping from Japan to the US Actually Takes, by Carrier

How long does DHL take from Japan to the US?

Based on DHL parcels to the US shipped between August 5, 2026 and October 3, 2026.

Japan Post EMS (DDP) to the US

How we measure this

• Start: the time the parcel leaves our warehouse in Japan.
• End: the carrier's first "delivered" scan.
• Mature batches only: we only count parcels shipped at least 30 days ago, so slow parcels that have not arrived yet do not make the numbers look faster than they are.
• Publishing threshold: a period is published only when it has enough tracked deliveries and at least 90% of the parcels shipped have a delivered scan. Below that, we show no number.

Japan Post EMS (DDP)

• Prepaid duties: these parcels ship with US import duties prepaid (DDP).
• Same end point, different period: the end point is the same as DHL, the carrier's first "delivered" scan, but the sample period is different, so the two are not a like-for-like comparison.
• Time zone: US tracking events are recorded in the local time of the destination state, and we convert each one using that state's main time zone. If the state cannot be identified from the address, we use a default US time zone.
• Publishing: the same rules as DHL apply, and the figures appear automatically once they are met.

What is not included, and why

• Japan Post EMS (DDP): we also ship to the US with this method, but delivery confirmations in the tracking data do not yet meet our publishing threshold.
• Other destination countries: each has too few tracked deliveries to meet our publishing threshold.
