≪STORY≫

[CASE. Jinpei Matsuda]

At the Metropolitan Police Department Academy at night, amidst falling cherry blossoms, the sound of Kenji Furuya and Jinpei Matsuda fighting echoed throughout the grounds.

Despite being at the police academy, Matsuda disliked Furuya, who was determined to become a police officer no matter what.

The two continued their struggle without yielding an inch.

At 2 AM, Keiji Morofushi woke up from a nightmare to the sound of knocking on his door. There stood Furuya, covered in bruises.

Seeing Furuya's condition, Morofushi asked him, "Do you think you can get along with that opponent?"

During morning assembly, next to the bruised Furuya and Matsuda stood their classmates: Keiji Morofushi, Koji Hagiwara, and Wataru Date.

Instructor Hajizo Onizuka, head of the Initial Training Division, questioned them about their injuries, but Date cleverly lied to cover it up.

Suspicious of Matsuda, who claimed to dislike the police yet answered questions about police conduct with precision, Furuya began investigating his past.

[CASE. Wataru Date]

During arrest techniques class, Furuya fought against Date. After Date won, he scoffed at the defeated Furuya, asking, "Why didn't you exploit your own weaknesses?" and stating, "You must be stronger than anyone else to uphold justice."

That night, Furuya lay alone in bed, pondering Date's words.

Morofushi, who was going out, visited Furuya's room. When asked if there was anything he wanted to buy, Furuya replied, "Nothing in particular," but

soon realized they were out of toothpaste. He went to leave the room to ask for help, but found Morofushi, Hagiwara, and Matsuda already gone, so he decided to go to the convenience store alone.

As Furuya stepped outside, he saw Date looking up at the sky, deep in thought.

Noticing Furuya, Date apologized for his harsh words from the dojo earlier and began talking about his father.

His father was a police inspector working at a local police box. Despite his frail appearance, he was someone Date deeply respected.

However, on one day off, a robbery occurred at a convenience store where his father had gone shopping.

Date was shocked to see his father groveling before the robber.

When Date told the robber, "My father is a police officer," the enraged attacker injured his father. Consequently, Date's father resigned from the police force due to his injuries.

It turned out the crime was committed by a yakuza member fleeing after losing a turf war, seeking escape funds; the same perpetrator had also committed assault at another store afterward.

Date believed, "If my father had been stronger and caught that man, not a single victim would have been harmed." Arriving at the convenience store, Furuya and Date met...

when several men barged in...

[CASE. Koji Hagiwara]

Furuya, Date, Matsuda, and Morofushi gathered for a group date. Although Date had a girlfriend, he joined only to make up the numbers because Hagiwara offered to pay for drinks.

Hagiwara arrived late, claiming he had been delayed helping an old lady on his way.

For the second venue, they went to karaoke, where Hagiwara quickly took over as the center of attention.

The next day, while the five were cleaning, an RX-7 FD3S entered the police academy. Out stepped Instructor Onizuka.

Fascinated by the car, Hagiwara spoke passionately, overwhelming the instructor. However, this wasn't Onizuka's car; it belonged to a senior detective who had died in the line of duty.

The senior's daughter aimed to become a detective, so Onizuka had been keeping the car for her.

Later, during heavy equipment training, the topic of Hagiwara's earlier behavior came up. Since Hagiwara's family ran an auto repair shop, he was knowledgeable about cars.

His childhood friend Matsuda had also spent time at the Hagiwara workshop, meaning both were skilled with machinery.

Hagiwara explained, "I originally wanted to inherit the workshop, but just as we expanded successfully, the economy slumped and the business collapsed."

"Unlike private businesses, the police force will never go bankrupt," he said, citing this as his reason for becoming a police officer.

After the heavy equipment training ended, a man approached Hagiwara and Matsuda. Impressed by their efficiency, he said, "I'd like to recruit you both to the Bomb Disposal Unit."

Matsuda immediately replied, "I'm interested," but Hagiwara declined, saying, "Let me think about it."

Working alongside his friend Matsuda in the same unit, doing the mechanical work he loved—this was attractive to Hagiwara, yet he seemed hesitant for some reason...

[CASE. Keiji Morofushi]

Ignoring the pleas of Furuya, Hagiwara, Date, and Matsuda to stop him, Morofushi ran up the stairs of a house engulfed in flames! The story flashes back three hours.

The five had been caught by Instructor Onizuka and reprimanded for their reckless actions, ordered to clean the baths.

During this, Morofushi noticed information about a girl whose missing person report had been filed the previous night via a copier. Having seen the girl in town before, Morofushi had obtained her photo.

Although the topic arose during cleaning, Morofushi evaded details, merely noting she looked exactly like a girl he played with in childhood.

Fearful of someone getting involved, Morofushi trembled, prompting the four others to assure him, "You won't die!"

Encouraged by their words, Morofushi began to speak about an incident he had encountered in the past.

Fifteen years ago, while eating dinner with his parents, Morofushi heard the intercom ringing repeatedly.

The visitor appeared to be an acquaintance of his father. Initially, the conversation sounded calm, but the atmosphere gradually grew ominous...

Morofushi checked on the situation, and upon returning, his mother instructed him, "Hide in the closet."

From inside the closet, Morofushi sensed the smell of iron, the suspect's strange words, and a goblet-like tattoo on his shoulder...

[CASE. Rei Furuya]

While Furuya was getting ready in his room, Morofushi arrived, saying he was going out.

As the two were talking, Matsuda joined them, and they ended up heading to a convenience store together.

Despite it being the day before an important ceremony, Hagiwara and Date greeted the three leisurely spending their time with exasperated expressions.

The initial training course at the Metropolitan Police Department Police Academy, which Furuya, Matsuda, Hagiwara, Date, and Morofushi had spent together, came to its graduation ceremony today, filled with many memories.

Meanwhile, there was a woman touching the RX-7 parked in front of the police academy, along with her friend. Seeing this, Matsuda couldn't help but shout at them.

Since Matsuda had just healed from injuries sustained in an incident the five had encountered, he was irritated, fearing that being touched would cause new wounds. Hagiwara calmed him down and pulled him through the gate.

With ten minutes until the ceremony, Date and Morofushi hurriedly followed, while Furuya called out to the women, "If you're interested in becoming police officers, I recommend attending the graduation ceremony as observers."

"If you have the pride and sense of mission to resolve to protect the people of this nation."

The five set off towards their respective tomorrows.
