How we measure this
- Unit: one parcel shipped from our warehouse in Japan, with everything the buyer paid us for the items and services in it.
- Period: parcels are counted in the calendar quarter in which their international shipping was paid, using Beijing time.
- Landed cost: the total paid to OneMall for the items and the shipping, minus any refund for a lower final weight. It does not include taxes or fees that the carrier or the destination country collects from the recipient.
- Shares: for each parcel we divide each part of the price by its landed cost, then take the median across parcels. Because each share is a median taken on its own, the shares in a row do not add up to 100%. Coupons and points reduce the total, so their share is negative.
- Occasional charges: shipping within Japan, parcel consolidation, and photos and authentication are shown as how often parcels were charged and the median share when charged.
- Categories: a parcel's category is the one that makes up at least half of its item value. Model kits and toys count as other anime and hobby items; electronics, unassigned items and parcels with no majority category count as other or mixed.
- Small groups: a group with too few parcels in a quarter shows no numbers.
- Excluded: internal test accounts; parcels with no international shipping payment; parcels that had not shipped or had no recorded weight; cancelled orders; parcels containing a refunded item; combined orders whose individual orders could not be traced; parcels with a total of zero or less.
Why some duty cells have no number
- DHL: duties are not part of the checkout price. Customs assesses them and DHL bills them separately, so we do not see the amount.
- Countries other than the US: duties and taxes are collected on delivery in the destination country.
- Mixed groups: where only some parcels paid duties at checkout, the duty share covers those parcels only.
