Usually, with three things to check first: voltage, language and region. Japan runs on 100 V, lower than almost every other country, so anything with a heating element or a motor — rice cookers, hair dryers, kettles — is built for 100 V and needs a step-down transformer abroad, while devices charged through USB or a universal adapter are unaffected. Japanese-market models often have Japanese-only menus and manuals, which matters for cameras, audio players and appliances with screens. Region applies to media: Japanese Blu-ray discs are Region A, the same as the Americas, and Japanese DVDs are Region 2, which differs from the US. Manufacturer warranties on Japanese-market products are valid inside Japan only. OneMall buys the item in Japan and forwards it from our Japan warehouse; checking these three points is on the buyer.
| Check | Japanese | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Voltage | 100V / 定格電圧 | Heating and motor appliances need a transformer abroad |
| Plug | Aタイプ | Two flat pins, same shape as North America |
| Language | 日本語のみ / 多言語対応 | Japanese-only or multilingual menus |
| Region | リージョン A / 2 | Blu-ray A, DVD 2 |
| Warranty | メーカー保証は国内のみ | Valid inside Japan only |
Japanese-market models that are not exported, and products where the Japanese version is the fuller one. Sony Walkman players and headphones in domestic variants, Panasonic and Zojirushi kitchen appliances, Japanese-market hair care such as Panasonic's nanoe dryers, audio from Audio-Technica and Final, gaming hardware in Japanese colourways, and the domestic ranges of Casio and Seiko all fall into the first group. The second group is products whose Japanese release comes first or includes accessories that the export version does not. Japanese retailers deliver inside Japan only, and Japanese-market models are rarely stocked abroad, which is the reason to use a proxy.
Some can, some cannot, and the carrier decides the rest. OneMall's prohibited items list names wet batteries under corrosives and magnetic materials and engines under other dangerous goods, so wet-cell batteries and strong magnets cannot be forwarded. Lithium batteries are governed by each carrier's dangerous-goods rules rather than by that list: a device with its battery installed is treated differently from loose battery packs, and the rules determine which shipping methods are offered for a parcel at our Japan warehouse. Ask before ordering spare battery packs or power banks.
| Item | Ships? |
|---|---|
| Appliances without batteries, cables, audio gear | Yes |
| Devices with a built-in lithium battery | Depends on the carrier's rules; methods may be limited |
| Loose lithium battery packs, power banks | Ask first |
| Wet batteries, strong magnets, engines | No — on the prohibited list |
New from Amazon Japan, Rakuten and the electronics chains' own online shops, which can be ordered by pasting a link; secondhand from Mercari, Yahoo Auctions and Suruga-ya, where the notes to read are 動作確認済 (tested working) and 付属品 (accessories). Discontinued Japanese-market models appear on Yahoo Auctions.
| Where | What you typically find |
|---|---|
| Amazon Japan, Rakuten | Current Japanese-market models, appliances, audio |
| Electronics chain online shops | Full domestic ranges; order by pasting the link |
| Mercari, Rakuma, Yahoo Fleamarket | Used gadgets, headphones, accessories |
| Yahoo Auctions, Suruga-ya | Discontinued models, vintage audio, tested used gear |
Start with 動作確認済, which means the seller tested it, and ジャンク, which means sold as-is with no promise it works; everything else is detail. Japanese sellers list the accessories against the manufacturer's contents, the cosmetic state and, for anything with a battery, the battery's condition.
Weight and volume, plus the customs line. At order time you pay the yen price, OneMall's service fee, shown before you confirm, and the seller's domestic shipping if charged; when the item reaches our Japan warehouse you choose an international shipping method — limited for items with batteries — and pay for it. Headphones and small gadgets are light; a rice cooker or a speaker is a heavy, boxed parcel. Electronics carry a declared value that your country's customs will assess, so import duty or tax is more likely to apply than on clothing, and any transformer you need is a separate purchase.

Yes. Orders from different sellers arrive at our Japan warehouse separately and can be consolidated into one parcel before international shipping.
OneMall does not guarantee authenticity. OneMall is a proxy buying service, not the seller: both new and used items are bought on your behalf from third-party Japanese stores and marketplace sellers, and we forward what that seller ships. Read the listing photos and condition notes in full before ordering, especially for used items.
