Idol merchandise in Japan is a standardised set of formats sold around concerts, releases and fan club membership rather than a general merchandise range. Most of it is produced for one tour or one campaign and never restocked, and a large share is sold blind, meaning you cannot choose which member you receive. The formats below cover the majority of what circulates for both J-pop and K-pop acts in the Japanese market.
| Format | Japanese term | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Official photo | 生写真 | Small printed photo, usually sold in random sealed packs |
| Photocard | トレカ | Trading card format photo, often a release bonus |
| Acrylic stand | アクスタ | Printed acrylic figure of a member |
| Penlight | ペンライト | Official light stick, tour-specific |
| Uchiwa fan | うちわ | Flat paper fan used at concerts, a Japanese-market staple |
| Can badge | 缶バッジ | Pin badge, usually sold in random sets |
Two distribution channels account for most of the scarcity. 会場限定 (venue-exclusive) goods are sold only at the concert venue, on the day, to people physically present. FC限定 (fan club exclusive) goods are sold only through a Japanese fan club, which normally requires a Japanese address and a domestic payment method to join. Neither channel has an overseas equivalent, which is why the resale market is the realistic route for an international fan — and why the items keep circulating long after the tour ends.
Buy them secondhand, on purpose. Because 生写真, トレカ and 缶バッジ are sold in sealed random packs, Japanese fans routinely end up with members they were not collecting and resell or trade the duplicates — the listings are often titled 譲渡 (jōto, to pass on). This is the normal domestic practice, not a loophole, and it is why searching a member's name plus the format word on Mercari or Rakuma is far more effective than buying sealed packs and hoping for the right one.
Photo and card goods are graded on surface condition and on whether the packaging is intact, since both drive resale value. These are the terms to read before ordering.
The components are below. Photos, cards and badges are light and flat, so international shipping is a small share of the total and several sellers' items consolidate into one parcel easily — that consolidation is where the saving is in this category. The one thing worth requesting is protection: photos and cards should travel sleeved and in a rigid holder, because a crease acquired in transit destroys the item's value in a way that a scratch on a badge does not.
| What you pay | When you pay it |
|---|---|
| Item price in yen | At order time |
| OneMall's service fee | At order time, shown before you confirm |
| Domestic shipping inside Japan, if the seller charges it | At order time |
| International shipping to your country | After the item reaches our Japan warehouse |
| Import duty or tax, if your country charges it | On delivery, paid to your carrier or customs |
Search the member name in Japanese together with 生写真, and add 譲渡 to reach fans passing on duplicates. Pairing a name with the format word is how Japanese buyers actually find these items, and it returns listings an English search will not reach.
